Barry wrote these letters to me when I was manager of The Prohibition Bar (Tamars) on Brighton's Western Road.
They remind me how smart and funny he could be and they bring a smile whenever I read them.
I hope they do the same for you.
More artwork to follow,... when I find them.
Personally,...if I'm going to miss the man,...I'll do it with a grin.
John.

Heya John
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for posting these. They show a side to Barry that I never knew- I met him first when I came to work for him at Valentino's. I'd heard rumours of his time in the nick, but he never talked about it - how did he end up there?
Thanks again - I'm going to enjoy reading through these ... he always did have that Milligan-esque dark humour :-)
Take care,
Paul
Bar Valentino
Paul, sorry to respond so late,...been away.
ReplyDeleteBarry was young and foolish once and paid his price for it.
These days I re-read the letters and remember his intelligence and wit and the fact that the letters came from his prison cell scarcely occurs to me. Right or wrong,...they just allow me to hear his voice and I'm grateful for that.
Very best wishes to you
John.
